On May 30 2023, SIMAGINE member Laurens ten Kate presented the colloquium 'Re-imagining the Stranger' in the context of his summer course 'Re-Imagining the Human: Exploring Modern Philosophies of Imagination from Kant to Kearney' at Drew University (New Jersey, USA). The colloquium could count with the participation of Richard Kearney as a special guest speaker. Ten Kate collaborated with his colleague from Drew University, ethicist and artist Merel Visse.
Urgent questions for our time were discussed, starting from Kearney's book Anatheism: Returning to God after God (2010: How to respond to ‘the stranger’? What does it mean to be ‘hospitable’ to ‘the other’, to the ‘unfamiliar’?
